Triathlon LAB: (The story)
The project: Triathlon LAB was designed to be a cutting edge full service triathlon company with the ability to
keep adapting as racing technology advances the sport. Executing the concept….. for Triathlon LAB was not so simple,
building an infrastructure of sports related professionals such as coaches, trainers and doctors to create a network
of invaluable human services takes time. The goal…..The result of which would help provide the tools and the means
for all people to achieve their triathlon objectives easier. The plan…..To break the traditional bicycle shop stereotypes,
set new industry standards and reinvent the way the specialty triathlon category performs as an IBD-Independent Bicycle Dealer.
Also, The initial business plan would include a Performance Laboratory and therefore would become the most ambitious triathlon
shop to be created outside of the traditional retail business model.
Secret weapon: Simply put….We know our business and we take care of our customers needs. We’ve noticed through out the country,
as the sport of triathlon has become the fastest growing segment of the bicycle retail industry, that only a small percentage
of the specialty independent bicycle dealer’s are somewhat successful at adapting to these market changes. Having simply missed
the boat, As is the case of “Too little, too late.“ Most bike shops are gaining little ground in this new area of expertise.
We don’t consider this specialty market to be a popular fad that just means additional sales at the end of the day. This is
our passion and our lifestyle. So we took a calculated risk and opted not to become just another “ Me too’ bicycle shop.
Experience matters: Triathlon LAB is a family owned and operated business. As the founder-Lloyd Taylor’s experience dates back more
than 15 years in the sport of triathlon with 2 years racing as a pro triathlete, 6 Ironman events and over 50 multisport racing events
worldwide. He is the original co-founder of the Los Angeles Triathlon Club and the former T2 Race Director for the City of Los Angeles Triathlon as well as other events. Lloyd has written
numerous technical articles on the sport and is also a triathlon coach and considered to be a top expert in the science of “Bicycle Fitting”.
You won’t find more triathlon expertise anywhere in Los Angeles.
The results: Triathlon LAB has successfully launched itself to the top of the competition. The new company
was selected as The Official Race Headquarters and Triathlon Shop of the City of Los Angeles Triathlon and The Day at the Beach Hermosa
Beach Triathlon and the Inaugural 2005 Redondo Beach Triathlon. The 2500 sq. ft. retro designed indoor/outdoor store is conveniently located
on a lot surrounded by Catalina Ave, Broadway and Beryl Streets in beautiful Redondo Beach, only block from the King Harbor Marina and is
very easily accessible from the Bike Strand.
